Survivors of Homicide Awareness Month: SHAM
From November 20th - December 20th Family Resources recognizes the national Survivors of Homicide Awareness Month (SHAM), a month-long initiative dedicated to raising awareness about the profound impact of homicide on victims, their families, and first responders.
What We Aim To Achieve:
Educate the Public: SHAM provides an opportunity to inform society about the devastating effects of murder on families and communities.
Uplift Survivors: We celebrate the resilience of survivors and promote their peace-building efforts.
Create Community: This initiative offers a dedicated space for survivors to come together during the holiday season to honor their loved ones and acknowledge the commitment of those who serve.
Join the Survivors of Homicide team in our mission to influence how society views these tragedies. Together, we can foster understanding, compassion, and healing.
Adopt A Family
Family Resources’ Adopt A Family program helps bring holiday joy to families in need. Clients create wishlists with gift ideas for their children, and generous donors step in to make these wishes come true by shopping for Christmas presents. Your support makes the season brighter for families who need it most!
This holiday season marks a special milestone for Family Resources—175 years of service to the community. Through your kindness, countless individuals have found hope, safety, and joy in their most challenging times. We invite you once again to join us in our cherished "Adopt a Family" program, where together, we can make the holidays brighter.
Here's how you can get involved:
Choose a Family: Contact our dedicated team and we will match you with a family or individual in need. You can specify the size of the family you wish to support.
Shopping: Once you receive your family's wish list you can begin shopping for items that will bring smiles to their faces. There are additional volunteer opportunities to wrap these gifts with love and care.
Deliver the Joy: Arrange a drop-off at a convenient time or gather with us for the Holiday wrap parties and, if you wish, spend some time together. Your joy and generosity will make a world of difference.
Donate: If shopping or wrapping isn’t feasible, you can still make a meaningful impact by making a monetary donation. Your donation will go directly toward providing gifts and essentials for families in need. Every contribution helps spread the joy of the season!
Spread the Word: Encourage friends, family, and colleagues to join in this heartwarming initiative. The more, the merrier!
Your participation in the Adopt a Family program is not only about providing material gifts but also about creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of belonging during this special time of year. We will match you with a family or individual that could use your support, and together, we will make this holiday season brighter for the community we serve.

Operation Outreach: A Commitment to Safety and Support
Understanding the Challenge: Research shows that individuals experiencing homelessness are disproportionately targeted by violent crime. A 2014 study across five U.S. cities revealed that 98% of participants facing homelessness had been victims of a violent attack.
The Survivors of Homicide and Other Violent Crimes Program is proud to host an event in partnership with Cordelia’s Pantry and Humility Homes. Participants will receive a warm meal, learn about available programs, and access vital resources and referrals.

Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose
Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose is back for year 3!
2020 was a year that brought about big changes in our business, and our annual Opening Doors gala just one of the many things we had to reimagine in order to keep pace with what was happening in the world around us. When we realized we couldn't host a party that year to celebrate and support the good work at Family Resources, we decided to bring the party to YOU, and Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose was born.
The first two years were so successful, we've decided to bring back the House Party for a Purpose for year three!
Last year we raised $84,468 with the help of our sponsors and supporters, and over 80% of those funds went back into programs. This is what makes Open Your Doors so successful - because we get to keep the overhead low, your dollars go directly to support what matters most... the people we serve. So, join in the effort for Open Your Doors 2022 and let us bring the house party to you!
We've got a party for every palate!

Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose
Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose is back!
Last year we realized that we would not be able to host our annual Opening Doors Gala because we value the safety of the community...
BUT rather than cancel outright - or move the event online - we decided to reimagine what it might mean to gather safely and still support the vital work we do to support successful lives...
And so, by popular demand, we are bringing back our at-home fundraiser,
Open Your Doors: A House Party for a Purpose.
Save the Date: October 1st, 2021 from 6:00 pm to whenever you say it ends!
Here's how it works:
You choose your party, invite your friends, then leave the rest to US!
Complete with catering from one of four local restaurants, we will deliver everything you need to enjoy an evening at home with your friends as you party for a purpose!
