Passion to Purpose: Kimberly’s Story

My name is Kimberly Birdsong and I initially chose to volunteer because since I was a teen,  I have always had a desire to do something for the community.  However, I have found that through this process of helping others, I have the privilege of listening, sharing insight and  most importantly, just being there for survivors who are in their most vulnerable state.  When survivors begin to trust you (a stranger) to give them a shoulder to cry on or to hold their hand, it is an honor that shouldn’t be taken lightly.  Volunteering has also allowed me to gain the same insight into my own experiences and has  helped tremendously with my own healing process.  Through this, my hope is that the survivor will hear something that will help them heal and give them a reason to hope again.
