Shelly is a clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience in disability services, child welfare, foster care, and community mental health. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from St. Ambrose University and is clinically licensed to practice in both Iowa and Illinois. Shelly has also pursued specialized training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
Outside of her professional life, Shelly enjoys spending quality time with her family, friends, and her cat. She has a deep passion for arts and crafts, finding balance and fulfillment in creating various projects, which helps her stay grounded.
Shelly specializes in trauma, attachment, and challenging behaviors, including depression, anxiety, mood disorders (such as Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder [DMDD]), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), suicidal ideation, non-suicidal self-harm, and adjustment disorders.
While Shelly primarily works with children aged 10 to 17, she is open to working with children as young as 7 and young adults. She also has experience working with individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD), depending on their processing abilities.
Shelly’s approach to therapy is warm, interactive, and engaging. She tailors her methods to the individual’s interests, incorporating art, games, and other activities to create a comfortable and effective therapeutic environment.
